Donations: Planned Giving
A Planned Gift comes in different forms, simply put, it is the process of naming Christ's Love Ministries as a charitable beneficiary of an estate plan. All gifts made to Christ's Love Ministries may be designated to benefit a specific geographic region, age group or program. There is a joy in knowing that you have helped ensure the financial future of charitable causes you feel are important.
An effective estate plan balances your personal and family goals and values with your charitable interests through financial planning. We suggest you review any existing plan periodically with your advisors. This is especially important when changes in personal and financial circumstances occur.
The benefits of charitable giving are many, whether your gift comes through a bequest or during life giving opportunities. Almost every charitable gift can be considered an investment. Potential benefits to charitable estate planning include:
• Helping others in your community
• Estate Tax Savings
• Income Tax Savings
• Capital Gains Savings
• Fixed Income for Life
Benefits For Family and Christ's Love Ministries
There are several types of plans. Many of these have wonderful benefits for the gift donors. Many of these families have enjoyed increased income and generous tax savings. You might start by meeting these friends. The following are examples of the benefits of planned gift giving.
Donor Stories
Years ago, John inherited stock from his grandmother. He held the stock for several years, but decided to sell a portion of it this year. The stock had gone way up in value, and his CPA (Certified Public Accountantinformed him that he had a capital gain of nearly $120,000. He had always planned on making a charitable gift and the CPA reminded him that if he were to make a gift of this stock before the end of the calendar year, he would receive a charitable deduction on the gifted shares. This deduction will help offset the capital gain tax on the stock he sold.
Josephine was holding $80,000 in highly appreciated stock, and did not intend to sell, primarily because of the substantial capital gains tax she already faced. To sell any more would only increase her tax. Her gift planner recommended that she consider an end-of-year gift that would help lower her taxes. He called this a Gift and Sale plan. It meant that part of her stock would be sold and the proceeds would come to her, and part would be gifted to a charitable organization like Christ's Love Ministries.
That is what Josephine decided to do. By giving the $80,000 in stock, she received two benefits. First, she avoided a large capital gains tax on that stock. And then, she received a charitable deduction. The deduction even offset the capital gains for her prior stock sale of $120,000. She was very pleased with the double benefits of her gift. And, she's delighted that she was able to make a nice charitable contribution.
